Are these images
copyright-free?
No, many are copyrighted by our company, but
Lunagirl images are
"royalty-free" for personal use and for some resale of
unique art and handmade crafts. This means you can use
the images in your personal art and crafts projects without payment
of additional fees or royalties (within the guidelines in
the terms of use).
All Lunagirl images are offered under license
and subject to our
License/Terms of Use.
All of
our CDs and collage sheets are copyrighted, and some are registered
with the U.S. Copyright Office. Many individual
images are copyrighted by us as well.
Purchase
of a Lunagirl CD or collage sheet is the purchase of the
right to use the digital files in accordance with the
terms of the license agreement, and does not transfer ownership
of the files themselves or any intellectual property
rights. Most
commercial and professional uses require
additional
licensure of individual images.
But aren't these all
public domain?
Most of our images started out in
the public domain, which means that
the copyright had expired or that
they were never copyrighted to begin
with.
However, creative
alterations of a public domain image
can create copyright
protection for the altered version,
or at the very least for the
alterations themselves. This
is the case with many Lunagirl
images.
An oft-cited
example: if you take a photo of the
Statue of Liberty, you don't own the
Statue of Liberty but you do own
your own photo.
Similarly, although the
original piece of ephemera may still
be public domain, if we take a
digital photo of that piece of
ephemera and creatively
alter it we own the altered
version.
There is also the issue of
licensure. All Lunagirl images
are offered under a license
agreement, as is
common practice in the stock image
industry
in recognition of the time, money,
and production work expended in
acquiring, compiling, and restoring
the images. We are pleased to offer
images for pennies apiece for
personal use (and the lowest
commercial licensing fees we know
of).
Can I use these
images in my art?
Yes! You may incorporate Lunagirl images into unique
collage art, ATCs, ACEOs, Art Squared, fabric art, or
mixed media art projects, which may be sold if you wish.
The only requirement is that you credit Lunagirl.com if
your work is displayed online or published!
You may print unlimited copies of images or collage sheets
for your own personal non-commercial use or educational
use, and alter them for your own non-commercial use as
well. Please note that this permission is for you,
the purchaser, only, and we ask that our images not be
forwarded to others!
Can I use
Lunagirl images for my class or workshop?
Using the printed images for a class or workshop you teach
is fine, please just be sure to credit Lunagirl Images.
If you'll be sending students to our site to purchase
supplies, let us know and we can offer a discount!
Can I use these images on items I sell?
If you are
creating unique art such as ATCs, ACEOs, other collage or
mixed media, etc. -- YES (see above).
If you are
creating handcrafted items, unique handmade cards,
handcrafted jewelry, etc., to sell yourself, you may use
up to 10 images without further permission. You may
also use up to 10 images to create labels or tags for your
items for sale using your own home printer. (This is
for CDs, collage sheets slightly different terms).
If you want
to use more than 10, or do any commercial printing, please
contact us for
permission. We're often glad to give permission if
you simply credit Lunagirl, but sometimes an additional
license may be required. Or you can visit
www.lunagirl-images.com for commercial royalty-free
licensing.
And personal non-commercial uses of the printed
images are fine!
If
you are creating prints for sale or any
design elements for sale, or wish to use images in
professional graphic design or advertising, you'll need to license
individual images from us rather than buying the CDs,
which are not licensed for such uses. Please read our
Terms of Use for
full details.
Info on our very
affordable commercial
licensing!
Can
I sell collage sheets/ decals/ stickers/
fabric squares/ charms/ transfers/ etc?
No,
but you can make them for your personal use. "Design
elements for sale" includes anything you sell or
distribute for others to use
in their art/crafts, such as collage sheets, stickers,
decals, charms, transfers, fabric squares. Sale or
commercial distribution of these items is
not allowed, although doing any of this for your own
personal use is encouraged!
Can
I sell shirts/coasters/magnets/buttons/mirrors etc?
You can create any of these for your
personal non-commercial use, but selling them is
considered commercial printing and requires permission.
Selling buttons, mirrors, etc. that
you create yourself in small numbers is usually OK if you
ask permission. Selling prints or shirts requires an
additional license.
Our
royalty-free commercial licensing fees are the lowest we
know of! If you are interested
in commercial use licensure, please
email us or
click
here
for more information and we will be glad to work with you.
What
about making jewelry to sell?
For
creation of handcrafted jewelry to sell yourself, you may
use up to 10 images without further permission.
(This is
for CDs, collage sheets slightly different).
If you
want to use more than 10, please
contact us for
permission. It's usually OK if you credit/link to
Lunagirl.com. Or you can visit
www.lunagirl-images.com for commercial royalty-free
licensing. Loose charms are
considered "design elements," and require permission. Making jewelry
or charms for
personal use is fine!
Can I sell prints or printed greeting cards?
You can create any of these for your
personal non-commercial use, but
any
commercial printing or mass production requires purchase
of a commercial license. Commercial printing includes
prints or similar items for
sale (you can make them for personal use just not for
sale!) It also includes greeting cards that are
printed in bulk rather than handcrafted and unique.
Our
royalty-free commercial licensing fees are the lowest we
know of! If you are interested
in commercial use licensure, please
email us or
click
here
for more information and we will be glad to work with you.
Can
I sell or share the digital images?
No. All Lunagirl digital images are protected by a binding
terms of use license agreement, and many are copyrighted
by us. Your purchase grants you permission to use
the images in accordance with the terms of our license
agreement, but ownership of the digital files remains with
us. We encourage our
customers to enjoy these images, but resale or redistribution
of the digital images in any digital form (on CD, DVD,
downloads, e-cards, e-prints, image sharing services,
etc.) is strictly
forbidden and illegal without express written
permission from SummertownSun Publishing.
Can
I use these images on my website or blog?
You
are welcome to use up to ten images in small
size (300 pixels maximum) to decorate your
personal website, blog, MySpace page, etc., if you give credit and a link back to Lunagirl.com for each
image you use.
You can contact us for the specific wording and link if you like.
We do ask that you use them in small
size and low resolution (96 dpi or lower), and take reasonable steps to
prevent theft of the images from your page.
Please Note:
When you use a Lunagirl image on your blog, it MUST link
back to Lunagirl.com and may NOT open up to full-size for
others to download. Lunagirl images may not be
uploaded or shared on Photobucket, Flickr or similar sites.
I am a graphic designer. May I use these in my
work ?
Use in commercial graphic
design or website design for third parties requires
commercial use licensure of individual images. The CDs sold directly from
this website are not licensed for such use. If you are interested in
commercial use or professional use licensure, please
email us .
Can
I use them to make auction templates to sell?
If you wish
to use Lunagirl images to create auction templates to
sell on ebay or share with others, please contact us to arrange
permission. Your templates would need to include a
third-party credit and link to our website Lunagirl.com.
Thanks for your interest!
I am
a digital scrapbooking designer. May I use Lunagirl
images in my work?
Use in commercial digital
scrapbooking design requires additional licensure.
We offer two levels of licensure, depending on whether you
credit Lunagirl. Please
inquire and
we'll be glad to work something out!
Can
I use them in marketing or advertising?
Use in advertising,
marketing or commercial graphic
design requires a
commercial use license for individual images. (We do
not license entire CDs for commercial use.) If you are interested in
commercial use or professional use licensure, please
email us or
visit
www.lunagirl-images.com for commercial royalty-free
licensing. For use in media production (film,
television, etc.) please
email us about
rights-managed licensing.
How much duplication of images is there between your CDs?
Very little. We have kept overlap to a minimum and only where it makes
sense. For example, many of the Christmas angels are
on both the Angels/Fairies CD and the Holidays set; some
antique photographs of mother and child are on both a Ladies Photo CD and the Children's Photo CD, etc.
Some cigar labels are also on our People CD or Animals CD. If you have questions, please just
email us.
What
does the image gallery viewer do?
The image gallery viewer displays the images and allows
you to easily browse through images and thumbnails, zoom,
copy, view a slide show, resize, and print. The CD will
open automatically and you will see a gallery of "albums"
of images from which to choose. Within each album, you
can view large images, browse scrolling thumbnails, and
use commands on the top bar or right-click menu.
Just
right-click on an image to zoom, copy, or print! Our
buyers comment on the ease of use. You can also view an
album as a slideshow with pause, rewind, and fast forward
commands and fancy dissolves between images. You may
even be able to view them on your DVD player, if it will
display jpegs (consult your DVD player owner's manual). Make any
image your computer screen wallpaper with a couple of
clicks!
This presentation enhances the beauty of every image and
makes it much easier to find the image you want. We
think the image gallery viewer, plus the many, many hours
we have spent carefully organizing and preparing each
collection, set our CDs apart from all others we have
seen.
The response from our customers has been very
positive! However, if you prefer your CD without the
viewer, just let us know and we will send it at no extra
charge.
A
version without the viewer is available for every CD upon
request. (Our collage sheets and panoramic
photographs always come without the viewing gallery.)
Will
your CDs work on a Mac?
We can send you a Mac-compatible version of any of our
image CDs. The image gallery viewer on our CDs is PC
software. However, just tell us you when you order that
you are a Macintosh user, and we will gladly send you the
alternate, Mac-friendly version (all the same images, same
excellent organization, without the viewing software). All
Lunagirl Vintage Digital Collage Sheets come in a version that
will work on either PC or MAC.
Some
Mac users have a PC-emulation program on their system that allows them
to open and use PC software, and in this way are able to
use the image gallery viewer, but we must rely on you to
determine whether your system has this capability.
We have sent
thousands of CDs to Mac users, and we are confident that
you will be able to use and enjoy our our products!
What is the
resolution?
Most
of our CD collections are 300 dpi. The current
exceptions (soon to be updated to 300 dpi) include
Vintage Animals, Victorian Religious Ephemera, Native American
Photos, Cigar Labels, and Vintage Clip Art, which have images scanned
between 96 and 300 dpi. All Lunagirl digital collage
sheets are 300 dpi.
Resolution is always relative to print size. Images can
be 300 dpi at 1 inch or 4 inches or 10 inches ~ the number
that really matters is the number of pixels on the longest
side. Our images are generally 900-1500 pixels on the
longest side (occasionally larger or slightly smaller),
which means they will be 3-5 inches when printed at 300
dpi. Usually you can print them at twice that size and
still have print quality acceptable for most home crafts
applications. If you need larger files, please contact us
to see what's available.
Information on resolution specific to each
CD is
included on their description pages, and some descriptions include samples for
you to comp and try out (try clicking pictures on the top
row of samples). If you need help, contact us.
Please feel free to ask questions before you buy, as we’re
glad to help make sure our products will meet your needs.
What
about print quality?
We have had
overwhelmingly positive feedback from customers who print
and use our images in their altered art, collage art, ACEO and ATC, decoupage, scrapbooking, and
other crafts, and to create cards, labels, tags, quilts,
fabric transfers, and many other items with beautiful results.
Most images are intended for printing at less than 8x10,
ideally about 3x5/4x6/5x7 or smaller, although many images
will do well larger than this.
If you
need larger files for sale of prints or professional use,
please contact us!
If you are concerned
about print quality, please contact us for a comp sample
before you purchase .
Because of the digital nature of our products we cannot
accept returns or exchanges, so we encourage you to
email
us before purchasing if you have any questions or concerns.
Please
feel free to ask questions before you buy, as we’re glad
to help make sure our products will meet your needs. We will
gladly answer all your questions to help you make an
informed decision!
How
do I add text or modify an image?
In order to modify an image, such as putting your own text
onto a blank label, you need to copy and paste the image
into your own image-editing or photo-editing software.
Adobe Photoshop is a popular choice, but there are many
others, such as CorelDraw, PaintShop, PhotoImpression, and
Photoshop Elements. Many computers come with simple
photo-editing software that is easy to use and will work
just fine for basic editing.
To copy an image into other software, simply right-click
on the image and choose Copy to Clipboard. You can then
paste the image directly into your software program and work on it from
there.
TO RESIZE BEFORE PRINTING:
In the Print Images
window, you can resize an image before printing. Several
size choices will be shown, but if you want a size smaller
than those shown, simply type in the desired size, down to
three-tenths of an inch (very tiny!). You can go very
small with good print quality. You can also enlarge
images; the print quality will depend on the original size
and resolution of the image, and some images are more
suitable for enlarging than others. Again, feel free to
experiment with a sample image or email us with questions.
If you are working with one of our digital collage sheets,
these are jpg images that can be resized and printed
smaller just like any other jpg. This is great if
you want to print smaller for charms and other jewelry.
TO PUT
MULTIPLE COPIES ON ONE PAGE:
You can resize and print individual images directly from
the CD. In order to put multiple images on the same
page, copy and paste them into your image-editing or
photo-editing software.
Do
you ship internationally?
Yes, we are glad to
ship internationally.
Packages ordered outside the United States are promptly shipped by U.S. Postal Service
First Class Mail International or Priority Mail
International. Visit our
shipping and payment page for shipping

Please
note that buyer is responsible for any

Can
you declare my package as a gift or put a lower value on
the customs form in
order to avoid customs charges?
We must truthfully declare your international package as merchandise
and state the actual purchase price you paid as the value
on the customs form, to be
in compliance with the law. We apologize for any
